Little Rock

After breakfast this morning, we headed out to cross the bridge to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library.  In this photo, I am standing in our RV park, looking across Interstate-30 to downtown Little Rock.

And this is the bridge we're going to cross.  We're crossing the Arkansas River, of course.  This was originally a railroad bridge that they no longer use, but it was refurbished and opened as a pedestrian bridge, inaugurated by the Clintons.

Here's the outside of the Presidential Library.  I guess to draw people in, they have other exhibits going on from time to time.  Right now, it's an exhibit on The Beatles!  Very cool.

The top of this building has a large apartment where the Clintons stay when they're in town.  Bill was from Hope, Arkansas, so I guess he has family he comes to see from time to time.

Bill welcomed us.  I was sure to not be caught in a room alone with him, though - hehe.

This is the only photo I put in here of the Beatles exhibit.  Who's that on Abbey Road?

The same guy...the Vice President!  In the Cabinet Room of the White House.  At this library, there are a couple of rooms set up identical to those in the White House.  This one, and the Oval Office (couldn't take a picture there).

And of course they name a street after President Clinton here.

We headed out to find some lunch in the River Market district, where there are several restaurants.  Gerard said, "How about that one, "Big Whiskers".  I said, "OK, you mean "Big Whiskey's?"  He's going to have to start wearing his glasses more often.  We both had yummy hamburgers.  Haven't had one for a while.

On our way back across the bridge, there was a boat moving 12 barges along the river.  He had to be pretty sharp to maneuver through the pilons.  We watched, and he made it.  We were more worried about the bridge we were on while he was going under it!

Our RV park is on the WRONG side of the wall that holds back the river in the event of a flood.  Fortunately it's not raining...yet.

We headed out to drive up to the Capitol Building.  It wasn't open today (Saturday), so it wasn't worth walking to in this ccccccccold weather.

Well, look who's in town?  Right around the corner from us at the Verizon Arena.  There were about 6 or 7 trucks like this parked here.

So this is the Arkansas State Capitol building, built as a replica of the Capitol building in Washington, of course.  We've seen others like that too.  Beautiful spot.

Right now, the grass is brown and the trees don't have any leaves, just like at home (without the white stuff).  But I bet this town is very pretty in the spring.  It's not big and seems to have a lot of parks.

So that's Little Rock, from what we've seen of it.  Tomorrow morning we head back out on the road, driving not too far past Dallas/Arlington, Texas.
